Scott Bros is a 50-year-old family business on Teesside that combines skips, haulage and plant hire with large-scale recycling — turning construction waste into sand, aggregates, compost and low-carbon concrete.

Founded in Thornaby in 1972, Scott Bros has grown into one of the North East’s most complete circular-economy operators. Its four Teesside sites hold more than a million tonnes a year of permitted processing capacity and received around 396,000 tonnes of waste in 2024.

Two ‘urban quarry’ wash plants — the newest able to process up to 300 tonnes an hour — turn construction and excavation waste into builder’s and sharp sand and graded aggregates. It composts green waste for the four Tees Valley councils, treats landfill leachate and gully waste in a natural reed-bed system, and now makes low-carbon concrete using its own by-products.

A fleet of around 68 vehicles — skip loaders, grab wagons, tippers, low loaders and road sweepers — plus a full plant-hire operation and in-house workshops make it the processing anchor of the group’s North East cluster, a few hundred metres from CW Russell.
